Facebook for charities – get on this!

Jan 12, 2018

We’ve been waiting for this for such a long time, and it’s really nearly almost here. So close we can smell it!

Finally, finally, you can register for Facebook’s Charitable Giving Tools.

This means you’ll be able to collect donations and enable supporters to fundraise for your charity on Facebook. This is currently being rolled out worldwide, and while Australian NFPs can’t yet officially collect donations, individuals CAN fundraise on your behalf.

It’s fantastic news, because your supporters can set up a dedicated page to share their story, tell others about your mission, and rally around a fundraising goal. Their friends can donate in a few taps without leaving Facebook, making it easier to collect donations. Even better, each time someone donates, they are prompted to share and invite their friends. Shares and re-shares also contain a donate button, making it easy to donate right from the News Feed.

You can register NOW for the Charitable Giving Tools, so that when the final stage is rolled out to Australia, you’ll be set up and ready to go.

To apply for Facebook’s Charitable Giving Tools, make sure that your charity’s Facebook Page is categorised as either “charity” or “charitable organisation” and that a Page admin is applying.

Before your organisation can collect donations on Facebook, follow these three steps:

1. Your page must be submitted and approved for verification (this can take a few weeks, so get on it!)

2. Your page must follow Facebook’s community standards

3. You must provide a bank account to collect donations on Facebook

Easy as that! We really recommend applying for these tools now, so you can hit the ground running in 2018.
