Beyond Blue

Our ‘conversation starter’ templates are designed to equip people with the prompts they need to check in with a friend or loved one about how they’re coping with their mental health. Presented as a gallery of four templates, our conversation starters post was one of our best-performing organic posts of 2021 – reaching 183.5k people and generating close to 8k engagements.

The content was presented in a user-friendly manner: keeping followers in-platform and minimising the clicks required to access the conversation starters, and allowing them to easily download the templates to be populated and tailored to each person’s circumstances. In a year where Australians became increasingly fatigued with news about COVID (and the mental health support messaging accompanying it), these conversation starters cut through cluttered social media feeds with a fresh set of guidelines to help anyone have life-saving conversations with their friends or loved ones.

Australian BPD Foundation

(posting as BPD Awareness Week)

Borderline personality disorder is a complex mental health issue that is associated with the highest levels of stigma and discrimination. The Australian BPD Foundation, a volunteer led charity, each year runs a BPD Awareness Campaign to generate a sense of hope and optimism for people to achieve a life worth living.

We know that much of the (mostly) historical language contained in research and training concerning people living with BPD is stigmatising, discriminatory and inappropriate. Many people with BPD experience self-stigma which impacts upon the way they (and others) see them.

The theme of the Australian BPD Foundation’s BPD Awareness Week campaign in 2020 was 'Flipping the Script: Changing the Narrative on BPD'. The campaign aimed to change the way we think and talk about borderline personality disorder. It also encouraged people living with BPD to be mindful of the way they think about themselves, allowing others to see their challenges and their celebrations, move towards strengths-based self-talk and to celebrate their strengths.

This is important for a person’s self-worth, helping them to understand their own and others behaviours and help lead to sustainable wellness. We invested in stories of hope, triumph and recovery.

Dwell Housing Trust

Dwell Housing Trust’s purpose is to provide affordable quality homes for people in need. Our vision is well-housed communities where people live well and do well.

For this post we wanted to highlight our latest housing development in Wellington, NZ, in a fun way that would grab attention and reach as far as
possible, organically. We were delighted it reached 6160. As a small organisation with six staff, we don’t have a dedicated comms professional.

Our Team Administrator Zoe crafted this post, editing the photo to overlay the image of Godzilla. Comms isn't officially part of Zoe’s role, and she doesn’t have formal comms experience. It’s all hands-on deck at Dwell as our team works hard to provide more homes.

Developing affordable housing has challenges, particularly raising capital to fund developments. We're trying to utilise social media to reach people who want to support us in our vision. We believe we achieved a great result in this post with creativity and a bit of fun.

Epilepsy Queensland

What happens when you get a bunch of kids to read scripted lines to a camera? The cutest Seizure First Aid video ever!

Epilepsy Queensland's 'Get Seizure Smart' campaign asked the question, "Do you know how to respond if someone you love had a seizure?". As 1 in 20 children will have a seizure, we had some kids in our community pose the question, "Do you know how to help me if I had a seizure?" and urge the general public to Get Seizure Smart by learning Seizure First Aid.

The compilation video was the campaign's top performer, with 5.8K reach, 1.9K views and 424 engagements total! Epilepsy Queensland's mission is to be the beacon of hope for people living with and impacted by epilepsy, and seizure first aid training is just one of the many ways we help our community live well.

Hope 103.2

One day before Sydney was released from its 107-day lockdown, we hoped a particular story would encourage our followers. Instead, it seemed to encourage beyond expectations.

An episode of our UNDISTRACTED podcast, Laura Bennett and her guest, US pastor Max Lucado, focused on every person being uniquely placed to remedy the world’s pain. Whether living in NSW or elsewhere, Facebook users all understood the past years of pandemic anxieties, frustrations, exhaustion, and this article ‘You Are Made For and Needed in This Moment’ clearly showed many were connecting with that pain.

The post was liked, commented, shared and clicked on thousands of times – with all but one comment in the positive (and one sharing pancakes... sure, why not?). Facebook saw its value by distributing it 27x higher than other posts, with an organic reach in the high tens of thousands.

Hope 103.2 is proud of posts such as these because our mission is to “impact people with experiences of God’s love” and Laura and Max sharing the story of Esther’s life and linking it to how vital everyone’s contribution is in this world was a true example of our mission.

Project Youth

Every so often, everything comes together perfectly. An organisation reaches out to us, we get some great photos, and our cause and reputation are bolstered in the most positive way. We would be nowhere without support from our generous community and volunteers and this post shows that exact bond.

Thank you Cronulla Surfing Academy and Blake Johnston for always supporting us and thank you Dermot Carlin for volunteering your time and taking lovely photos!

Zonta House Refuge Association Inc

Our friends at Relationships Australia reached out to ask if Zonta House would promote their up and coming FREE FDV awareness training for any one working in the beauty and hairdressing industry and of course we said YES!

As we know FDV often stays silent in our communities and often women will open up to their hairdresser or beautician when the question “so how have you been?” is asked of them. Arming our community with the tools to be able to recognise the signs and how to respond.

Due to combined promotion, the session was fully booked with a waitlist and further courses are being scheduled for 2022! Zonta House know it will require a whole of community approach to change the attitudes and behaviours that drive the abuse that enables it to thrive in our neighbourhoods. We must do better to prevent the serious harm and death occurring at an alarming rate which disproportionately impacts women and children.

FDV is a deliberate action: perpetrators choose to abuse and perpetrate violence upon victim survivors and strategically work to repress their acts, we need social change and we cant do it alone. Change is possible.

98five Sonshine FM

In the lead up to Christmas, we asked our listeners to nominated a family they knew who was doing it tough. From all the heartbreaking stories we heard, we chose 3 families to receive a $500 Christmas Hamper.

This video showcases one of the recipients Nadia. A single mum of 3 boys, who has humbly been pushing herself to the edge taking care of her family and also finishing 7 years of study. In this video, we meet the person who nominated Nadia, her sister. Then we all surprise Nadia while she's volunteering at a school. This post was so well received by our listeners/followers, or as we call them 'The 98five Family'.

I believe it was the perfect depiction of authentic positivity and Christmas Cheer that encouraged our followers to be inspired to look towards others in the holiday season.
